Lots more WOW factor with the HEMI. What would your dad have done? As I am sure you already know, the big expense for the Hemi is in the heads and rocker system. Yep you can use the same crank and rods from your wedge motor, U Would need new pistons & rings and cam, lifters/pushrods. A Hemi intake and you are all set. I raced Hemis fo ryears and never had any real issues as long as I kept the maintenance up on them. You could probably go just as fast with a wedge using todays heads and the good quench they provide. BUT IT WOULDN'T B A HEMI

Don't forget new headers for the hemi.
Getting old just means you were smarter than some and luckier than others.

$ for $ you're not going to beat a wedge. Not saying it's a "better motor, just that for the avg Joe, with new aluminum heads and cams and so on, a wedge will run with any Hemi for 1/2 - 2/3rds the money.
Agreed. You have a set of fully ported -1's and all the parts, and there is one thing your not considering....Will it fit? And I don't just mean will the heads fit between the two front cage bars and the fenders, but will the headers fit?
The other thing, is of course the cash needed to go that route....New block, new pistons, new heads, new cam, new push rods, new intake, new headers, new wires, etc...
I would go with a new aluminum block and the rest of your parts..

John As far as I'm concerned, there is no right or wrong in "your' choice of the hemi or wedge. It's your ride and you in the seat!I had a similar decision 2 years ago, had all the goodies for a predator wedge setup, but thought the hemi was the answer. What did I do? I had Nickens build me a 1000+ h.p.W-8 small block . WHY? I just wanted something that was a little different Have a good X-mas and good luck Dave

Don't be offended by this (all in fun) but, with my 'wedge' eyes, I can see about 200lbs. of unnecessary weight from that pic. and I'm just talking pistons alone.

Yeah I know Hemis aren't cheap at all. I have been picking stuff up when I'd find it. So I have alot of Hemi parts. I guess the real question is would they perform about the same or would the Hemi have the edge cause of them heads ? The wedge if I go that route will be 543".... Oh and dad never really cared for the Hemis. He always told me that a well tuned wedge would beat a Hemi... Now I know that to not alway is the case but that was dad.. he loves the wedge..
some people sleep with their hemi

Okay so I figured I will stick with the Duster and its now in the chassis shop being updated, with new chrome moly cage, ladder bar, ect. So my next question would be I'm buying a new block this year anyhow so I'm at a crossroad... Do I just stick with the 440 based, 4.375 bore, 4.50 stroke with max ported -1 heads or do I step up and build a Hemi. I have a friend with stage v heads that I could get a good deal on... and the rest of my wedge stuff will work with the Hemi. I guess the real question is which would be the best bang for the buck. Thanks Guys
the wedge is second to none, MOPAR is the trick. if you are going to race a lot probably the wedge would be more practicle and just as much fun as any hemi. well maby have a meerrrryyyy Christ mas

Sean,no offence taken. The vision I got at about 13 years old was of an old "B" body with a blown hemi.I have my '63 now about 25 years, fist 10 was 3 wedgies before the chance to get a hemi.Peter Pudlin sold me the engine he bought from the Bellmore Fire Department here on Long Island when he picked up 2 hemi's and a boatload of heads, intakes and carbs.I started with a borrowed crossram untill I picked up a tunnel Ram with carbs, ran that for 5 years untill I saved up for the blower deal. I'm not the only person with HEMI-ITIS
HEMI-ITIS has no cure. My condition is fully BLOWN!!

I went through the same thing back in 2006. I was trying to decide b/t a big B1 or a hemi. Finally decided on the hemi b/c I just wanted one. Cost a little bit more...not that much really if you're buying good wedge stuff, but still more expensive. It was worth it to me seeing the looks on people's faces when I pop the hood. One downside is don't plan on doing any grudge racing w/ a hemi car.
