Installed the aluminum m/c with the correct adapter on 71 ebody, non power brakes and I notice that the brake pedal is very "high" (towards driver) at rest position. I am pretty tall (6'3) and have pretty good size feet and with the seat all the way back, I do not like the position of the brake pedal. My leg hits the steering wheel before I get my foot squarely on the pedal and is uncomfortable getting it there.

Question --> How much space is left between brake pedal and floor when brake pedal is fully depressed?

I am thinking of making an aluminum space to go between the adapter and the mounting plate, about 5/8", to move the pedal back. Also thinking about the adjustable push rod from Mancini. Anyone do anything differently?

Thanks,
Mark

Alot of alum M/C's have a thinner flange and or the piston is closer to the flange both of which effect a higher pedal. Either the adapter plate which I'm assuming is already in use or yes a shorter pushrod (there are diff lengths) or an adjustable one. You could machine a spacer plate (of the desired thickness) to go between the firewall and the alum 2 to 4 hole adapter to space the M/C and adapter farther forward to lower the pedal. I'm assuming the pushrod/retainer is locked in far enough to be in the machined recess in the piston EDIT Not sure I'd trust just a weld but I'd be comfortable with cutting the p rod to shorten it then sliding the ends into a hardened double female sleeve then welding each end. That'd be the simplest/cheapest way to go

Hi Rob, yes pushrod is all the way in. I figured it out that is way easier to put the little grommet in the m/c first then push the push rod in, went in like a snap! As far as the spacer, didn't think of adding it there, so there is 2 places I could put a spacer and get it where I like it, cool.

I didn't think there was room for the neoprene to go in first. You're sure it's locked all the way in/solid?. Sounds like you have a homemade plate that is flat on each side (which is fine) as opposed to a tailor made one with the raised mirror image of the flange on it that meets the flange and on that one you'd add more thickness on the back side. More spacer your set & wont have to mess with the neoprene nub again

yeah, I tried it the other way as you told me and could not get that thing in for nothing. Tried it the opposite and got it to go. I gave it a few tugs and it is definitely locked in. Also gave a "snap" when it seated on the push rod.

I sure as heck don't want to mess with that nub again! It makes me

Sounds like you're spot on & more spacer will fix it
