Where in the stat exactly would you drill this hole?

Only thing that has worked for me was an OEM or a aftermarket with a recess cut into it for the thermostat. I wipe it all down with acetone and use alittle gasket maker on both sides then bolt it down and let it sit over night. Learned my lesson too many times from not letting it sit long enough for the gasket maker too cure.

I don't think it really matters.
I installed a new stat this year and it came with a hole drilled in already in the centre section
