I'm on my 3rd stat housing unit and it's still leaking where it meets the block. When I took the first chrome one off, it was warped. So I bought another chromed one from Chrysler. It was ok for a week but then started leaking at the same spot. When I took the second one off, I saw that it had also warped. So I got one off a 60s Mopar and put it on. Was ok for a few hours then started leaking again. I've tried everything: new gaskets every time, "goop" on the gaskets and even tried two gaskets once. No luck. I have't taken off the third one yet so am asking for some advice as to how I can stop my stat housing from warping/leaking.

have you double checked the pump housing? the only T Stat housing I've ever had leak were the chrome ones.are you using silicone? I use the brown gasket sealer. a mechinac I used to work with used weatherstrip sealer when he overhauled engines. a royal pain to get off, but never had a leak.

Big block I take it - try running the mating surface on a belt sander for a bit to flatten it out. Leaking chrome housings are a very common problem.
I opted for an o-ringed Chevy housing to avoid the problem.
Yes, bb 440. Already did the belt sander trick before putting on the last one.

Take your latest one , get a piece of 8.5x11 emery paper and double sided tape it to a known flat surface , run the thermo housing over it in a figure 8 pattern till you a get a good clean contact pattern.
I did this on my used chevy t-stat housing. I colored the bottom with a magic maker and sanded until the color was all gone.

2 I had several leaky aluminum SB thermostat housings in the past, now I block sand them down flat before installation, and no more leaks.

Easiest solution is to simply NOT use a chrome housing at all. Mine is in the bottom of the lake now, and I just use a painted iron one. Never a problem again!
My third stat housing is off a late 60s Mopar - very light, aluminum? Straightened the bottom before installing. Still leaking.

then you have a leak coming from someplace else , like the hose connection ? or something is cracked ? what does the water pump housing surface look like ?
you are putting it together properly ? bolts not to long and bottoming out in the housing making you THINK its bolted down properly ?
fly me up ,i'll fix it

My brothers 318 gave me fits leaking at t-stat, left gasket out, use a good qual sealer, nice even bead and let sit 24hrs before refilling.

drill an 1/8" hole in the stat while you're there.
haven't heard that one before, what does that do?
thanks!
