yep. been there and done that. it seems like all you do is work and have very little time to do anything else. then when you do get to race, it's a lot of work, expensive and if you are in an area that has a lot of cars, you don't get very many runs down the track or you have a tech guy that's harsh and reads the rules a bit differently. it wears on you. what i did discover was that once you sold your car and don't have another, you remember why you got into this sport to begin with. you might want to do something different to your car to make it more exciting.i am trying to make the car run the same numbers but with a drag radial using the same suspension.

Maybe Im having a mid life crisis (at 35) but I just cant find the motivation to work on my car or race it... seems like everything has got so damn expensive, NHRA rules get tighter and tighter... Keep thinking maybe I need a new or different car to re-spark my interest... Anyone else been thru this?
I gott burned out in 1988,I quit racing, sold one of the race cars(I had two at that time) and went to learn to fly. It took me two years to get my private pilot license due to training after work in the spring, summer and fall. I quickly learned that normal flying wasn't much fun and it is a lot of work Aerobatic flying is a real kick in the pants and I really enjoy doing that I also learned that drag racing gets in your blood, at least in mine , so I ended up driving a car for a friend (that I built a lot of mtors for his restoration business) for a while and ended up making my current street and strip car several years later. I have four other project cars that I want to do from the ground up just like I did the Duster, time and money allowing I know several other dedicated, die hard racers that have switch interest to other things after getting there fill of drag racing No big deal, don't pay money and waste time doing something you don't really want to do IHTHs

Glad to hear I'am not the only one that feels this way. After 15 years of racing my a$$ off the kids get my time now.People laugh when I tell them I love working on vintage bicycles now.My 80s bmx collection is up to about 50 bikes now,LOL I still do some race stuff for other people but really hard to get mine out to the track!I think in time the fire will come back but may be way out classed when it does.

I raced Mopars for over 20 years, I just turned 39 yesterday and I started losing interest a couple years ago. My energy level has gone down, my son plays travel sports and I work alot of hours. I'm gonna miss racing with my awesome race buddies and Moparts friends but I've moved on, I traded for a car that I can drive the family around in all day and it feels like a 10 second car. I may get back into it someday but for now I am extremely happy and content.

I almost sold mine, but realized it was a case of depression. Glad I caught that and didn't make a mistake. So if you are losing interest or not finding enough interest to work on the car, check that out.

I just recently sold my car, due to a lack of time, as my family (wife and two young boys), as well as a very busy business, have cut into the time that it really takes to test, and figure out the type of car that I had. If I was selfish, the car would still be in my garage, but, you just can't buy time. One day soon, I would like to build a twin turbo hemi 10.5 car, but, it will be on my terms, when my boys can enjoy it with me. Until that time, the back seat of my W2 powered 69 Dart, will have some booster seats, and my boys will get their first taste of what a cool Mopar is all about.

I was a little burnt out last season , especially at the start up. Wound up parking it for the rest of the year. Sell it , NO WAY . Cause when it`s gone it ain`t commin' back . Feeling better about things , a lot of non car issues are resolved and I can`t wait for the next season openner . Sometimes a little rest is a good thing. Chryco

In a word ....No ! But I am a gearhead from top to bottom. I dont have alot of money and I love driving my car so thats why mine is a street/strip car that is 99% street. I love driving it and cant get enough. But at 55 years old and with a bad back and knees I have to make myself work on it when it needs it as it really hurts to bend over when I have to work on it. But I would rather drive and race it anyway. I hope you work it out as thats one problem I will never have. Good luck , Ron
thats my problem too Ron..age and injuries..

I set the race car on a side burner last year so I could build my Rampage for the street/strip... I've built a few other cars for myself over the years but had to sell them (divorces) so now I'm REALLY looking forward to get this Rampage on the street and see how it runs... between customer cars and my own stuff I stay real busy... which I thought being retired was going to be a nice slow pace..... NOT... but thats my fault... once I get these last couple of customers out of here I'm going to kick back and start having some fun and work on my stuff at a more leisurely pace... after my Rampage is done I'd like to get my 38 Plymouth on the road(needs interior and a few other things)

Well, glad im not alone on this one... it got to the point that racing was $2-300 a weekend, after a dirty divorce, and having to sell my big tire car, and most of my parts, the black car is all I really have left. I've found that the same money id spend in a nights racing would pay for a weekend at the river for my whole family... or more recently I bought a cadillac CTS-V, crazy thing is my new caddy is way more fun to drive, and in luxury no less! Doubt ill actually sell my car unless someone throws money at me... lol
I use to have a charter business for salmon fishing that took all my weekends but the fishing with south so I parked my Searay in my pole barn where its still setting... I should sell it but you never know I might pull it back out... interest change but to replace a toy after selling it would cost much more(most times)

Try wrecking your car, and look at your investment in shambles. Wait.. Bad idea.. After taking nearly 3 years to get it back up and running, you get the itch back. I would suggest you try Drag Week.. You have a street car.. On my "Bucket List" Mopar Billy's thread kind of shines a light on how much fun/work it can be. And what an experience.. It's all about the memories.. I used to street race only for soooo many years.. (you already knew that).. Got bored.. Same ol, Same ol.. But when I met Gecker, it all changed. Just change it up a bit.. The MATS is also a great event.. Chris..

The drag week thing is the direction I'm going now... been on a couple and had a riot but now I want my own car for it.... thats what my Rampage is for

55 years young here and just yesterday started the teardown on my old bucket to completely go through it from front to back. I figured if I didn't do it pretty soon I won't be able to. "old age and all that crap that goes with it " . Anyway I still love it and I guess I will until they put me out to pasture. Joe

I find it is relative to my income. When I'm makin money, have some in the bank, bills are paid, etc. I get really fired up to work on the car. Lately, not so much.
Been looking for a new career, so hopefully I can find motivation again.
I'm Gumby dammit!

Not really....Frustrated sometimes, I ran Heavy/Pro for over 20 years and never did all that well, the Dart ran mid- high 10s at the time, when they moved the top of the class to 9.00 it got really tough. A few years ago I slowed the car down and put DOT tires on to run Street Eliminator ( 11.50 is the fastest you can go ) and I`m having a ball, I am one of the fastest cars in the Class dialing 11.50s and I`m chasing everybody by leaving last. I have had my best seasons, Points finishes and had more Eliminator wins since doing so.
