I see orange bolts on the alt bracket... Mines the same way.

What do you plan on doing to it?
If it were mine I'd replace the grille, work as much magic as possible into getting it shiney, replace the top and drive it.

The most delicate details are the first to get lost in an engine clean up effort, stuff like chalk marks and ink stamps usually die first. It looks like you have a good opportunity to get some great details from your engine. The throttle cable had an ink date code stamping on the shiney silver ferral portion, IT'S VERY delicate and easy to wipe off, does yours still have it? Can you see any signs of a soft green paint daub there?

Some other questions:

What color is your throttle return spring?
Coil ink stamp date code?
Plug wire date codes
Heater hose part#'s/dates
Radiator hoses part#'s/Dates
Distributor date code?
Alternator casting dates/part#s/Date codes
Starter casting dates/part#s/Date codes
Carb Date code?
Fuel pump date code?
Temp sender date code?
Oil sender date code?
Power steering pressure hose date
Exhaust manifolds casting dates
Engine mount rubber casting dates (yes they have them!)
Any signs of paint on the negative battery cable?
What color is the dip stick handle?

That's just a start, please list all of the parts date codes as you can, many seemingly obscure engine componants have them, see my "Totally Anal 340 thread" for details if you aren't sure of of what to look for.

dont worry, Ive been on that thread probably a hundred times lol. I plan on getting all of the dates codes off the car. I want to take it to my nieghbor who has a car hoist. I hope to get around to it this weekend. also, I didn't plan on cleaning it up for that particular reason some of the stuff mentioned in your questions have been changed like motor mounts, fuel pump and radiator hoses. thanks!

This car looks like the car that was pulled out of a barn in Iowa earlier this year, by a guy who was more of a B body guy, and did some cleanup, drove it some, then put it up for sale on forabodiesonly.

Same car?

yes, same car lol. I talked to the original owner for a while also. nice guy! im very excited for this car. with the exception of a 4 speed, this car is exactly what I wanted, but pickers cant be chosers

thats exactly what I plan on doing. as previously stated, I am going to correct a few issues such as get a sharktooth grille (have one spoken for) put a set of original exhaust tips on it, rebuild the original thermoquad and recore the original radiator. I dont even think Im going to put another vinal top on the car to be honest. heck, I dont even think Im going to buff the paint.

Excellent project! If possible could you post a pic or two of how the automoatic transmission linkage ( from steering arm to frame rail) looks from inside the engine compartment.

Cool car, Kevin. That must be the bigger, badder brother of the one you sold me. It'd be neat to see them side by side.

ya, it was a freak accident. he was bending over in the milk house to pick up the measuring cup that he dropped that we use for pipe line soap and some how, kicked up some of the soap and it went right into his eye. soap it a very consentrated alkali. hes in a lot of pain needless to say.

Sorry to hear about your Dad Kevin! My dad used to be a rep for West Agro Chemicals (Teet Dips, etc.) that is indeed some powerful stuff! How he heals up fast.

Yep, I drug it out of the barn. It had a full front floor mat when I bought it.

Started on a 20 year old battery and drove it on 20 year old snow tires just like that with all the dust and poop on it to our local cruise last year and the big first car show last year. It was a blast. Still had the original title for it! The front seat was recovered once the guy said.

passenger side same thing plus a little rust hole below the tail light (odd place?) and typical trunk lid rust.. thats pretty much all of the rust issues on this car.
