Called PTC up today and spoke to Kenny. I need a converter for my '69 Barracuda with the crate 390 hp Moper 5.9 Magnum (230/234 @ .050" .501"/.513"). Car will have a 904 with 3.91's and will be used for bracket racing and street use (50%/50%). He suggested the 9.5" Street/Strip converter. I asked him what it should flash at and he thought 3800-4200 rpms. Will this be streetable (worried about heat and drivability)?

My son and I both run the Dynamic 9.5 street/stip converters and both flash about 4200. We drive the cars all the time on the street and the converter works great on the street and strip. You will be fine. Just make sure you run a good cooler. Ron

I love my ptc converter, I had Cope Racing trans build a transmission for me and they had ptc spec the converter. Its a 9 1/2 inch conveerter designed to flash about 3400 and work launching a 6" wide tire in Supercar shootout class factory appearing stock tire class, best of 1.77 60" with a 408 ci sb. I drive the car to each and every race, going to Atco this weekend which is about 3 hour drive. The converter slips just enough not to blow the tires off then comes in hard. oh I had a small cooler and I also run a blanket on the trans and never cooked the fluid, I hot lapped the snot out of the car.

Just like 383man said, you will be fine. Just run a good cooler with the converter. My 9.5" PTC runs excellent on the street.... and as Mr. Cope said to me when I placed the order, that converter will do wonders; I'm sure it will for you too.

Mine is a 9.5" from him and it flashes to 4700. And I have less cam than that and drive and race the crap out of my car. Don't you worry big guy, it shall be fine.

I've have that same PTC on my Duster for several years now. Works flawlessly....mild on the street and comes to life when I hammer it. It also lowered my cruising rpm's by 200 compared to the old MP one. Converter technology has come a long way in the past few years.

if thats what he recommended i would use it. iran a dynamic 9 1/2 inch behind my eddy headed mp 360 short block. had a 508 purple cam and 3.91 gear in it. the converter flashed at 3800. car drove great on the street. felt like a stock converter. hit the throttle and it just took off. at the track i could get 3k on the foot brake easy and it launched like it was shot out a cannon.

It's better to keep your mouth shut and give the impression that you're stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.

My current 10" converter flashes to 3700rpms and it feels like a stock unit when cruising. Use a tranny cooler and have fun!!
