I need to have a hood blasted so I can have it painted. I have heard sheetmetal parts are prone to distorting with certain types of media such as sand. What is the best type of blast media to use on a hood in order to keep the metal as straight as possible?

plastic, soda or even walnut shells are fine for panel blasting. shoot at an angle, and keep it moving, and the distortion or heat build up shouldnt be an issue. chemical stripping is an option, if you can deal with the cleanup, or know a chemical stripping place.

I have a 68 Dodge Dart with a metal flake paint job. I used a real good power washer. Yep I used water ! Nobody believes it except the rental company that loaned me the washer and their yard. Monday morning they came in and metal flake was every where.
