If any of you folks have worked on one of these engines I could use some ideas.

I have had other issues with this engine that have led me to replacing the timing belt and tensioner, water pump radiator and thermostat.

While replacing the tensioner, the pivot bolt stripped in the oil pump housing. I HATE aluminum!

Anyway, the new bolt was not all the way in, it was about 1/16 still out of the hole and it just gave way. The old bolt was very tight to take out, so I am thinking it had screwed up the threads.

Anyway, can I helicoil this? If I take it off the engine, drill it and install helicoil is that a good application? I have no idea if this area needs to be oil tight or what.

Can I just get the tensioner bolt as tight as it will get in the stripped hole and let it be? There should not be much side to side play in this area, but my old water pump was rubbing on the engine block.......

Ideas?

I thought you could drill all the way thru and put a bolt with a nut on it. I stripped one of my hyd tensioner bolts too. Its been awhile but I thought thats what I did to fix it.
