If it makes you feel better, your 12 mpg, is 5-7 better than the +.030 Rat in my truck. V-nose Featherlite 28', +12" height, 8800 lbs.

well thanx guys.the truck did come with the smarty programmer.ill try it out soon.i have moved to colorado and i left truck there, 1 less thing to move next week, lol. now i get the extra fuel tank in the bed.im looking into 1 of them.every 200 miles i had to stop for fuel.i dont like being down below half tank.

I have the digital propane injection. It does help increase mialage and extends the range of the truck.
I just wish I had gotten a larger propane tank.
I use about 1/2-gallon of propane to 1-gallon Diesel, and my propane tank (19-gallon, but holds 15-gallons plus expansion space) so it needs re-filled every time I fill up with diesel.
The problem is finding a place to re-fill the propane at a reasonable price. The propane place I goto is $2.50/gallon, but the price at the Flying J truck stop is $3.20/gallon.

so what kind of mileage do you get with that setup? how much does it increase the range, assuming 30+ gals of diesel and 15 gallons of propane. just wondering if it's worth it.

I run a 95 diesel dually 2 W/D with a 6 speed stick
and with my 43' trailer I get 18 mpg once I hit the
Expressway... city traffic and lights kills my mileage...
my trailer has a real small front to it(custom) so I'm
not dragging a wall behind me... also I try to keep my
revs at 2000 to 2200 which is 65 mph or a bit higher...
it has the 4.10 gear but I did put the tallest tire
on it that would fit

Is yours a standard 5.9 or a high output? I've heard from several other TCD Dodge Ram truck owners say that the 2003 get the best mileage and power of the stock trucks I have a freind who had a 2005 3500 4 WHD dually that towed the same trailer as I do,24 Ft. Pace Shadow and he uses a 12.5 ft overhead camper and he got better milage than me towing just my trailer, our trailer are probbally real close to the same weight with the cars in them. My truck is a 2006 3500 4 WHD four door (his is to) single wheel with the same gears as his so I tend to believe the other drivers on the earleir trucks getting better mileage, try different power settings on your box and see what that does. I also agree on the speed and wind affecting the mileage Slower is better when it comes to burning fuel I've got as good as 14.5 MPG towing the car trailer, I have a 34 Ft fithwheel camping trailer, it is really tall and the best milage I've got with it was right at 12 MPG going 60 MPG or slower on the first trip with it, the speed limit in Oregon is 55 MPH no matter what I've gotten worst mileage later going faster into a head wind coming back from Arkansas this spring, 8.3 based on filling the tanks all the way up and the speedometer reading The overhead console fuel milegage lies don't believe it

07 GMC Duramax/Allison 3500 Dually 4x4 L/B C/C got 16mpg on my trip out to Texas towing our open trailer and the same on the trip back with the Valiant loaded.....we got 14mpg towing Jimmy's 32' Enclosed loaded with his Dart when we took it up to Tony's to get wired up.....I got anywhere from 7-10mpg towing the 50' L/Q loaded. All trips are normally at 70mph interstate speeds.

It averages between 16-17mpg with no trailer on the interstate and 15mpg in mixed city driving...for the huge beast that it is, I'm very pleased.....

thanx guys.i also have a 2003 f350 ford and its also a 4 door long bed.the f350 has 8" lift,38.5 tall tires and i regeared it with 4.56`s. im getting better gas milage with the ford.im assuming because of the lift of the ford, i dont get the wind drag that the dodge is getting. the issue with the ford is i dont want to have 1 of those tires blow out at 70 mph.

I found some deals on the parts when I did mine and it was about $1,500. The fuel savings is a balancing act. For me it seems 50% propane works pretty well. If I turn up the propane higher I do use less Diesel, but way more propane.
For me I get about the same mialage increase as I would with the same amount of Diesel, but the propane costs less. So Normal Highway unloaded I go from about 20 MPG to 30 MPG. This would be 1 gallon diesel + 1/2 gallon propane.
Right now the savings is about $0.02/mile so it would take 75,000+ miles for the system to pay for itself. The propane does make the diesel burn quicker with higher cylinder pressures, so part of my conversion was head studs. The more complete burn is supposed to reduce emissions? and the extra fueling adds power. The extra fuel in the propane tank extends the trucks range by a 1/3. Might be able to go 900 miles highway/unloaded.
I have not towed long distances with the propane, maybe 100 miles one way and back, but the mileage increase looked good from 12 to 20 MPG with the same 50% propane setting, but I have not verified the exact amount of propane used. It seemed to use more propane, but it may have still been around the same proportion?

Here is the article Mopar Muscle did on the propane injection system:
http://www.moparmusclemagazine.com/techa...on/viewall.html

The one issue is Superchips/MSD does not list the DPI system anymore. I think they are still for sale from some places.
Bullydog has a simpler system, but it is just as expensive.
Finding the correct propane tank is not easy. Check with your local propane dealers as they may have some. If not you may have to order directly from Manchester or Sleegers.
