Yes, it is true. Some investors are trying to get the new owners to let them lease it and keep it open as a drag strip but probably won't know about that until the 24th. Dan is working on a statement and will be posting that tonight or tomorrow at the latest.

I'll never attend or participate in any race at this track, however I hate to see ANY of them close!

Bummer
I went to my first national event there in 67
Highlights:
George Hurst put up $10,000 for the winner of SuperStock. Real big money back then. Jerry Stahl's Hemi running Grumpy's small block The Freight Train qualifying on its' last pass Almost run over by the Snake in the pits Sky opened up right after the last car went down. I caught a disease that day that I'm still trying to get rid of.

From Dan Gutterman's post on the TRP website Quote:
It is with great sadness that we announce the closing of Tulsa Raceway Park, effective October 24, 2011. When Tulsa International Raceway was purchased in 2003, the decision was made to tear down and replace the existing facility with the hopes of restoring the drag strip to its glory days. With the help of many hard working employees and loyal racers and fans, we grew year after year. Unfortunately, the economy over the last three years has taken its toll.
I appreciate the many people who helped me along the way make Tulsa Raceway Park one of the finest race tracks in the Midwest and hope that someone is able to continue the drag racing tradition that Tulsa has embraced for 46 years. For those racers who achieved success this year, we are planning the Champions’ Banquet for early November so they can be honored by their fellow racers.
We’re not done yet, either. Besides the Throw Down in T-Town race scheduled for October 14-15, the Diesel Drags and Mod vs. Rod race on October 22 and the Duck Drags on October 22, several of you have asked for one last bracket race. We are looking at having that race on October 16.
I wish each one of you success in the future, whether it be on the track or elsewhere, and look forward to the opening of the next, new drag strip.

Don't give up hope yet, there is a strip down here that a gravel co. has been trying to buy for years. I talked to the gravel co. owner one time and he said he will buy it when the price is right, but he also said that he will lease out the strip for someone else to operate. He said the sand and gravel under the strip and pits has 50 years of oil and other fluids spilled on it, the EPA would require him to remove something like 40 inches deep and dispose of it, then any material below that would have to be washed before selling. So he would do better to lease out the track and dig gravel out of the property along the river, there is 40 acres there.
It said in the article that the Tulsa track has been there since 1965, so they may have the same situation.
And good luck to Mr. Fuller, local governments and the EPA have killed the last 3 mega-tracks planned in Ohio, Mansfield, Spitzer's, and Engel's.

This is really bad news for us in Tulsa, we have had the luxury of a racing surface that was second to none. Sadly for every 100 drag strips I have seen announced of the years only a few ever got built. Looks like we will have the same problem many of you have big fuel bills just to get the the races. I am not sure what this means in the death notice, "and look forward to the opening of the next, new drag strip." Speculation that there will be another strip built within sixty miles. I attended the first race at this track in 1965 I think, unless they do change their mind and run the Mopar race I won't be at the last. Bill Lamb
