Has anybody tried these headers http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-G9141/

Just wanted to know what kinds of issues I could have with them. Flanges seem thick enough.

Seem to be priced well compared to tti's and dougs

I was also looking at the hedman elites but the tube size seems small at 1 3/4" with 14gauge tubing.

Ceramics ? ... NOT SURE I would go that route ...especially with a new motor.

I'm running the 1 3/4 cheapies on my car. fit is nice. If you are running stock heads you can use all of the ex mani studs.

I have them on my 68` Plymouth. Fit great with the 383,,had to LOWER the engine 3/4`` to get them to fit a 440.. Otherwise nice headers for the price.
They are Patriot Headers in a Summit box

Also make sure you use Max-Wedge port gaskets.
The sealing "bead" is HUGE.

What do you mean by lowering your engine 3/4". The only thing I can think of is putting 3/4" spacers between the k frame and the car frame.

Also running edelbrock heads so they are angle plugged.

because they were in the car and ready to roll when I dropped this engine. Probably go up to 2" over the winter. Besides it runs pretty good w/ them.

The 1 7/8" look a lot like hooker 5903's which work awesome on 470-500" strokers after you fit a 3 1/2" collector on them.

Wonder how quick the FAST guys could go if they were even allowed to run "sippy straws" and 3" duals if they're already going high nines and solid 10's on factory logs and 2 1/2 inchers....makes you

This is a tad OT but how much HP or et can one except to pick up by switching from 1 3/4 to 1 7/8 or even 2"?? meaning is it worth the hassel and $$$

Here is an interesting article comparing header sizes. In this case the engine has been set up to make power at higher rpms which hurt the 1 3/4 headers.
http://www.moparmusclemagazine.com/techa...an_hedders.html

Here is another article comparing manifolds vs the elites

http://www.moparmusclemagazine.com/techarticles/mopp_0106_manifolds_vs_headers/index.html

Personally I was thinking the elites would be a bit small for my 493 especially because of the 14 gauge tubing.

But I see mr. Yuck is running the numbers I want to run with them so if there was to be fittment issues with the summit's I was going to go with the elites.

What interference issues are that made your lower your mounts 3/4's of an inch.

Too small of a Collector OD (ex 3" on a 500 incher) will typically limit peak torque RPM and can have an even larger impact on powerband than either primary tube length or OD.

When you artifically lower the peak torque RPM with a smaller collector it will continuous lowering trajectory (choking effect) on horsepower projection from that RPM on up.

They would`nt clear the torsion-bars on the 440.
I could`nt believe it either.
Tried 3-different sets of mounts and brackets, then she got the torch

Well, whatever size header I run probably won't matter anyway as I'm going to be running 2 1/2" full exhaust so I would probably be ok with the elites. Sounds like I'll be running them as I have no desire to be cutting welding and drilling.

yes these are the small tube summit BB headers in the sig. I hung a set of the SB on my bro's 67 'lite. As I reacll they hang a little lower than the BB units.

looks like I'll be trying 2" units next year.

Dennis was this with the 1 3/4 or the 1 7/8 ?

Usually it's the other way around , everything fits fine with a 440 and you have to get out the to put them on a 383 . I had a set of unknown headers , might have been blackjacks ? , on my 383 and they would not work with a mini starter on the 383. Nevermind I had to the tube for it to clear the standard mopar starter .
