Ok so im wondering if the steel wheels with poverty caps were they body color or black on my 71 superbee? I know mopar changed to all black and discontuned the body colored steel wheel but when? I thought it was the 1971 model year?

I think it happened during the 71 model year. Maybe someone could chime in with an approximate date. Might vary per plant?

it was between mid april and early may-people with access to database buildsheets should be able to work out a more accurate date.

Interesting so were spares body colored to match the rest or were they just black. I have the original spare and the steel wheel was black so does that mean anything or not?

Spare was black so it doesn't tell you anything

for what it's worth, Frank Badalson told me february '71 was the changeover date for going with black wheels - before that they were body color.

in 1971 at "B" - Hamtramck assembly the closest I can verify from e-body b'cast sheets

SPD - 126, has body colored wheels & "dog dish" hub caps and NO trim rings
SPD - 401, has black painted wheels & "dog dish" hub caps and NO trim rings

SPD - 109, has body colored wheels & "dog dish" hub caps and NO trim rings
SPD - 426, has black painted wheels & "dog dish" hub caps and NO trim rings
