Intentions change the more you think about them, at least they have for me. I just got my AMD bumpers from Mancini, and and i must say they exceeded my expectations. The rear had been on back order, so i just told them to ship them both when they got them together. Very shiny Just got back from driving the Demon to the body shop for its paint job. Man oh man, it drives like an old car, more creaks and groans than a 90 year old with arthritis My new plan is to paint it Corvette torch red, with black Demon stripes instead of white as i had originally planned. The car has a black interior, with just the front buckets needing recovered, and the door panels and such are decent enough to keep and use. Be a lot cheaper to just keep the interior the same color it was, instead of converting it to white. Gonna keep the snorkel style hood scoop and install that stripe kit on the hood that came on some of these cars, it kinda comes around the scoop and ends on the leading edge of the hood.I think that style stripe and that style hoodscoop were on 72 Demon's but i like the look so it wont be a true 71 in that regard i guess. Instead of installing a cage and yada, yada, just gonna do a 340/360 type deal that will run say about 11.70's that i can drive around anywhere and race if i get a mind to. Trying to stay sane about this, make a nice cruiser out of it , and let that keep me content. Will be back from the body shop in about 2 weeks or so, will shoot some pictures of it once its striped up and looks more presentable. Maybe i can find a deal somewhere on a good 340/360 thats together and running and drop it in, that makes a little steam. The 318 thats is in it is tired enough to where it runs like it hasnt slept for a week.

I like what you are doing.Keeping it simple and not too expensive is the way to have fun IMHO.I'm about to do the same with my Demon(street/strip duty)and am going to keep the 9:1 440 that runs on pump gas all day and still runs a bit faster than mid 11's.
The $$$$ at the track is the same whether you run 9's or 11's,so why spend all that money for the same payout??

Makes sense to me Don. Myself I've never been able to get away from the street strip mindset and if that means I go slower than I should....ok, oh well. The only downside I can think of is...if you decide to go quicker later on, might end up redoing parts of the car twice. But that's supposed to be part of the fun

Sounds like a good plan,Wendy's Duster ran 11.80's on an average day. I drove it on the street as much as possible and had a lot of fun with it. Basic 360 with stock Edelbrock's and a 557 MP camshaft is all it took. I would probably spec out my own camshaft now,but it was super reliable and very consistent. That was before we decided to make it faster and she lost it on her first pass. Keith

Somebody put a B body 8.75 under the car at some point, it has aftermarket axles and of course big bolt pattern. Driving it about 50-55 yesterday to the body shop it was rpm'ing pretty good. I think the gears are likely steeper than the 3.55's the guy who i got it from( he only took it on trade) thought it had.
You are right though, tearing out the carpet for a cage, putting a rear rear end under it, etc, etc would be doing everything over twice. I think the 8.75 will live with what i have planned, no brake, mild power....have to roll the tires around on a jack stands when i get it back and see what gears are in it.
I made a friend of mine an offer on a fresh 340 he has that has run 12.14 in a 70 duster it resides in currently, last week. I want the complete motor, trans, convertor, driveshaft, everything. I hope he decides to sell it, find out sooner or later, but i know he could use the money. Its upgradable from what it currently is( has X heads and a 540 lift hydralic cam) so might be the ticket if he decides to part with it.

Will this be lettered "The Quimby Shaker II" ?
Always cracked up when i saw that on your previous car...
Uh...No
I dont know if you know how i came up with that, but...i used to live outside Hastings, Mi., in a little hamlet called Quimby, there is nothing there at all, no Post office, nothing, just a few houses. The street i lived on was on a river( The Thornapple) and had 6 houses on it. The Sunday night( about midnight) that we got the car running with a 416 in it, we drove it up and down the driveway doing burnouts. One by one the neighbors lights came on, so we decided seeing as how it shook the whole neighborhood up, that would be a good name for it Little strange, i admit

Sounds like a plan Don! I'm anxious to see the pics. These 'get in it and go' 11 second cars are getting more and more popular. I miss my 9 second Dart but life sure is much easier now with a no maintenance type car.
