In an adapter between the filter and the block, or into the ports at the back of the engine where the OEM oil pressure sensor goes?

My first inclination is to use the "sandwich" adapter for the filter, but I'm open to suggestions.

If you had a remote mounted oil filter I would say plumb it into the pressure side of the line going back to the block from the filter If no remote filter drill out or ream one of the passages in the back out to 3/8 pipe and use that

I guess I'm interested in knowing whether one of those locations would be consdered more "proactive" vs. "reactive" w/ respect to handling the situation when the oil pickup is uncovered.

If I understand the path of the oil system correctly (that's a BIG "if" ), wouldn't it make more sense to ensure the flow of oil right above the pump isn't interrupted, rather than introducing the additional oil at the rear of the block after the lack of oil to the mains & rods would have happened?

I use the canton sandwich adapter and it works good! I have priority mains. I also have an Oberg setup and it acts as a pre oiler also

One thing you dont want to do is use the oil sending
unit hole... thats 1/8 pipe and wouldnt be enough
supply if you did loose pressure

Putting the oil into the back of the block is a fairly direct path to the main bearings. The front setup will also work but you have to keep the oil from flowing backwards to the filter.

If the engine is apart then take the time to drill and tap to the largest fitting that will fit.

in the rear you are filling the sump with oil that has not been filtered. Hence you return any trash also. By using a 4 port remote filter you can use the same fed that supplies clean oil back into the system. if pressure fails your reserve enters at the best possible place
Diretly into the mains

I used the sandwich adapter with the #10 line. this allows for seamless oil supply if required. The smaller 1/8 lines won't save your motor if the pickup runs dry or the oil pump quits...

Good luck,

The oil at the rear of the block only gets there by going thru the filter so it is clean oil that is in the accumulator. That oil goes directly back into the main gallery if the pressure in the gallery drops. It is a very simple and direct arrangement.

i agree with Andy and have always used the back of the block in a stock block application. Best pass to the mains.

I asked alot of questions over this last winter and fred helped me out alot! I'm glad I have the accumulator now... Not sure I'd feel comfortable with the small line in the back of the block. Brad here is a pic going to the front into a sandwich adapter! (10an/3qt unit) I added the oberg and put it up into the air stream also and like the filtration of it and easy to check whats going on in there whenever I want... I got tired of trying to figure out how to hide the thing and at the car shows everyone goes Wtfu... is that

the extra port remote filter because any oil discharged from the sump in a low pressure situation would be following the path exactly like camme from the pump. Then on the filter port I would be using #12 AN rather than #4 .
