Hi Guys,

I noticed what appears to be a difference in the top of the front C-channel trim vs the rear. The photo I'm attaching is of the driver side. It appears that the top (where I have the black line pointing) has a black finish while the top of the front molding is polished. Is that correct or should the front also be black? To clarify, this is the "thin" area just above the polished part.

Thanks, Joe

I've never seen them painted.

But there is a black foam strip that double sided stickered that goes between the body and channel. After all the years it gets stuck hard to the stainless .

No, not foam or adhesive in this case. There is a distinct difference from one piece to the other. The rear piece has a black finish from one end to the other. the front piece does not. Trying to understand how it should be.

Here's a better photo. You see a little "dirt" or "residue" on the silver part but you can see how the other piece is black. The areas you see where the black is thin is where I was trying to see how "thick" the black was. It certainly seems to be paint. I do not believe the C - Channel has ever been off the car.

vinyl top car or ? and how original was the car in question that the moulding came off. IE. previous repaint, interior work, exterior work? I have a few ideas, but need more info.

Hardtop, 1 repaint and some of the respray was on the drip rail molding so that is why I don't think it was removed. I know the person that did the repaint and have sent them an email to see if they have any idea. Pretty sure headliner was original but will check on that also. Seats were recovered previously.

Thanks, Joe

Joe,

The second picture helps a lot. I have a lot of pieces so I'll check to see if any of mine have the same look.

come to think of it I have seen that before on a 73 Challenger that I had some years ago. I thought it was kind of funny, and just looked passed it, never really thought much of it. It was an original vinyl top car.

I have trim off at least 2 or more 73s that I can look at for ya. Just last weekend I found that trim and more up in my garage attic that I put there in 1986-7 when parted a complete rusty 73. Untouched since then in my attic.
I kept every nut and bolt, even back in those days.
I'll look and see maybe post a picture. I have more in the basement of my home.

Got email back this morning from the guy who had the car painted. He said he did remove the C-channel to check or fix rust but he did not paint the black on it like that.

I've looked at photos I have of other cars it appears that several cars may have this same thing but the photos aren't clear enough to tell. Would like to get the trim finished up so I can install this weekend. Gary or any of you other guys have any luck? Car is a Oct, 69 build and confirmed the headliner is original.

Joe
