hey guys. in the process of building my new motor. a 426ci w2 headed sbm. and now there is 2 or 3 gas stations near my house that have e85. my question is how much compression can i run with e85??. i was planning on runnin 9.5:1 with the iron w2 and pump 93. but with e85 can i run higher compression like 12-13:1???. also i know i have to build the fuel system for e85 but thats no problom as im replacing it anyway. one more question is can i just run an alchohol carb???? or is there some special carburator i have to run for the e85?? thanks in advance guys!!! oh yeah, iv heard e85 makes more hp is this true??. hoping to run 11 o's to mid 10s with a street car. 67 notch cuda.

I have 13.8 to 1 on e85. Yes it will make a little more power, no on carb it takes a special carb.

Well with E-85 you burn 30% more fuel than gas so
if your tank is large enough it wouldnt be any problem...
yes you can run a alky carb IF you reduce
all of the circuits down to the E-85 values(alky
is about 2 times that of gas)... on compression you
can get away with way more compression... I am at
14.1:1 on E-85... I would go with about 12.5 on the
street just in case... I was going to build my Rampage
for E-85 but if I go out of state they might not
have E-85 so I went with pump gas instead

13.8:1 on E-85 with EFI. B-1 head. 12:1 should be fine with iron heads and a decent cam and timing. Figure what can you do with 105 octane petrol and you'll have a decent cushion due to greater charge cooling with E-85. S/F.....Ken M
