I had my car media blasted and painted in 03. They used Nason base and clear. It seems like if I just tap lightly, it chips. My neighbor who is a professional painter says that they didm't use the right primer. It alway chips down to the primer, not the bare metal. Is there anything to do beside stripping it and painting again?

Yeah, don't tap on it... Sorry but that's about the only thing thats gonna help.... They probably sprayed the car without much sanding and waited to long between the priming/sealing & the paint... I've seen guys talk about recoat times up to seven days on products... I wouldn't wait more than 24 hours & even then I'd worry...

I'm not sure about the primer, But I have used nason clear and it does chip too easy. Next time I'm using better clear. I was already using the chromabase, not nason for the base.
Not much you can do other repaint that I know about.

Oh yea I would never wait till the next day to recoat, in about a hour is when I recoat. Got to plan your day and nights, I never leave the garage until the paint work is done.

Sadly, Nason is only slightly better than Krylon. I used it years ago and since switched to PPG and Omni products.

I wouldn't consider Omini/shopline any better than Nason, worst from my experience.

Nason/Dupont base is much like the old dupont Centauri enamel base which wasn't an outstanding product either. Most paints recommend a sealer for bite over primer, maybe skipped(and argued all day) you might be at the life expectancy of the paint and it's beginning to break down

You obviously have no idea about what Centari was.. For many years it was my paint of choice & still would be if I could get it... I know of probably 60+ cars that were painted with Centari over 20-25 years ago that still look great... My Challenger was painted with Centari back in 96 & I dare you to find a car painted with any Nason product in the 90's or even 2005 or older that still looks like my single stage Centari job... :twocents

BTW This picture was taken less than a month ago... The car has over 70K miles since it was restored & you feel free to point out a chip in that front valance.. And the paint just has no shine at all.. No Clear Coat just Centari..

Most likely they used lacquer primer. It's time to strip to metal and do it right or quit tapping on it

the hot rod was painted with Nason pearl black. It looked great for a couple years. Now it just looks black.
If you talk bad to it the paint will fall off. In my case, it's likely due to the prep work.
