I'm going to tape it up tonight, and paint it tomorrow night. I took the valve covers off, so I could paint them separately.
Dan, should I drain the break-in oil, or run with it for some miles?

I don't see any reason to change it right now. The Bradd Penn break in oil will continue to help protect the cam and lifters. Put some miles on it. 500 miles would be a good start.

I've the got the engine totally clean and masked off, but Hurricane Sandy has put the kybosh on painting it tonight. The instructions for the Eastwood Engine paint says that low humidity and air temp around 70º is best. The outermost feeder bands over Tampa has pumped up the humidity, and its in the 80's. Plus, the chance for on and off rain precludes an ability to clear out my garage, so I have the room to paint. Saturday is looking like the best day, weather-wise. Stay tuned, Hemi orange lovers.

I really want to put the engine and trans in for the last time by Sunday, the latest. It will be a good motivational boost for me to see those major parts in there. Having them in the frame, I'll be able to finish up ancillary stuff, like the fuel system, mount the trans cooler, steering, etc. Next on the to do list is to spray the bed liner on the bottom of the tub, and mount it to the frame. Then, I can fit up the CJ-7 front end. After that, then I can start building the headers.

I shot it tonight. I will post pics of the pumpkin tomorrow. I will say this much, that Eastwood engine paint lays down very nice! WAAAAYYY better than any rattle can paint job. I used my jam gun, and reduced it 15% with urethane reducer. It laid down slick as glass.

Dave - awesome build. There's a reason your build threads have a gazillion views.

Old, tired, and sometimes broke down. Me, not my car...

Thanks, man. I just hope the reason for the views has nothing to do with the IRS conducting a surveillance on me....

It's OK. I'm from the government and I'm here to help. You do have health insurance, right?

Oh, when the armed IRS agents come for me, they will already know the answer to that question!

Thanks, Rick. I'm not certain what I'm going to do with the valve covers yet. The two options are, paint them orange and sand off the tops of the fins and lettering, or, have them powder coated a color that resembles cast aluminum.

Wether paint or powder coat, picking up another accent color off the vehicle would be my choice--then maybe sand the fins down and clear coat or clear powder coat if they were already done. I forgot the color scheme on this but something like a darker grey /stainless color might look good too as well as the air cleaner. Just thinking out loud here.

Outcast Dodge guy.
