I wish Dan lived closer to me, too! It was a 4 hour drive to drop off my engine parts. One of my buddies rode with me, and it was good to see and chat with Dan again, so all in all, it was an enjoyable day. The only downer was when, about 1/3 of the way there, much to my shock and horror, I realized that I had forgotten to load the mother-f#*!ing crank and rods!! WHAT!!!!???? I shipped them a couple days later, and UPS charged me only $42.00. Still, it took me a good hour afterwards to calm down and enjoy the rest of the trip.
BTW, I rented a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee for that trip. Sweet ride! Smooth as a Cadillac and very comfortable. The V-6 moved it along nicely. I wouldn't mind owning one.

Ouch!

I'm in a new Wrangler 4 door this week and I could imagine riding 4 hours in it, seats are hard as a concrete bench and I swear the suspenison is harder than my CJ with Super Lift springs on it. Cant wait to see power numbers on this thing, is he dynoing it?

Thanks for the warning on the new Wranglers!

No dyno sessions scheduled, so there won't be any hard numbers to brag about. However, Dan gave me his best educated guess on what kind of ballpark HP and torque numbers it should produce. If its anywhere near those numbers, I'll be happy.

I ordered the torque converter and flexplate today. I went with a PTC 9.5" model with 2,600 stall, and a B&M sfi flexplate.
The flexplate is on its way to Performance Only, per Dan's request. He wants to make sure its perfectly balanced. If its not, he will make it so.

here's a few more pictures from balancing the rotating assembly. the lesson here is that just because you have a neutral balance damper or flexplate, don't expect it to actually be neutral.
keep in mind that if your going to the trouble to balance the crank, rods, pistons, etc, it's worth it (and the proper way IMO) to balance the pieces that bolt to it.
here's the initial out of balance on the damper

Nice work, Dan! Thanks for posting the pics!

My PTC torque converter came in today. Hey Dan, should I send it down to you for balancing???

Is it just me, or does PTC steer most Mopar guys to their 9.5" converter? After telling them all I could about my combo and application, they came up with 2,600 stall with their 9.5" converter. I wondered why that small of a converter for such a low stall speed. I was expecting a 10" or 11" converter recommendation. I didn't bring this up to them, because they know a heck of a lot more about converters than I do. I still wonder, though.

they probably based that on the relatively light weight with the expected torque. what does a jeep weight? a larger convertor like a 10 1/2 or 11" would probably be around 2000-2200 rpm stall.

Well, my Jeep originally weighed right around 3,000 lbs. But, I've added frame crossmembers, heavier axles and much heavier tires, plus a heavier engine and a full rollcage is in the plan, so, I'm guessing the final weight to be around 3,600 lbs. That's the weight I gave to the PTC sales guy.
