Another mile marker reached. We have a rolling frame. It's really for mock up only, but as an added bonus, it provides an extra jolt of motivation. It felt good to bolt on the tires and push it outside. Each whee/tire combo weighs around 100 lbs.
The next phase will be to get the empty engine, 727, and transfer case together and lower them into position, so I can figure out where things need to be. To improve driveline angles, I'm going to make aluminum spacers to drop the skid plate 1 inch.
I'm going to inquire about getting the frame hot dip galvanized. There's a business in Tampa that does that, and they can handle large objects like vehicle frames. I have no idea what it will cost, but if it doesn't give me sticker shock, I might do it.

Ya, I could see why that is modivating.

If you could let me know when you find out about the hot dip price, I'm not too far and it could present an option in the future on other projects.

Will do! I plan on calling them either this week or next.

Yesterday, I mocked up the engine and trans. I feel I've made decent progress over the last 5 months, but I'm constantly reminded that I've got a looooong way to go to get this thing done.
The next order of business is to fab the engine frame mounts. I've got a design in my head of how I want to make it, just need to buy some steel next week and get cutting and welding. The engine will be bolted to the frame be done by next weekend. I also need to do some mods to the skid plate.

Back in the early 80s I drove long haul for a company that had a contract to haul boat trailer components to the NW. The componants came out of Clearwater and that Tampa galvanizer was who they used. I was able to get some of their obsolete parts to build a car trailer. The galvanizing was very heavy and is still doing its job and holding up very well. .

The company's name is IG USA, located in east Tampa, on Broadway. I contacted them about doing my Jeep frame, but they said they only handle commercial accounts, they don't do work for individuals. That's alright with me, I'm going to go with my original plan of spraying 2 coats of DP90 epoxy primer on the outside, and spraying Eastwood's Internal Frame Coating on the inside.

Id think about useing Hammerrite. When that stuff dries its almost like powdercoat. Its available in many colors and n brush on or spray on.

Why not have it powder coated that would be much better than paint.

Also a lot more expensive. You're looking at around 6-700 dollars to powder coat a frame. Not worth it to me. With paint, if I get a chip or a scratch, I can touch it up myself.

thats true but paint will never hold up like powder coat you will be touching it up all the time.
