Well, I am going for it, putting a 440 in my '56 Dodge. Who here has done it, and what advice can you offer? I remember a guy on here with a 440 in a '56 Plymouth. You out there, brother?

I'm not a computer guy ,,I know I have pics of the install but can't find them..If you want to you could call me for more info..I at first put the motor in the stock chassis, get rid of the heater box and move the battery to the trunk, just for the room.Later I put the Volere,Aspen type front end in..actually from a Chrysler 5 th ave..great install and nice ride but the P/S box screwed up the headers, you can see the disc brake caliper in this picture..772-335-2709 Larry..the car ran a consistant 12.5 with a mild 440, with 906 heads..727 trans and an 8 3/4 rear.3;91 gears..will find out soon times with the 493...a lot stronger

I Put a 383 with a 727 in a 56 Coronet 4 door. I cheated though and used a fat man fab front end. I put A/C in the car, so had to weld up the firewall. I also had to run an electric fan. I used the original radiator but put the fan as a pusher in the front. I had to massage the tunnel a bit, and I put in a B&M shifter for the trans.

I was able to use the origianal trans crossmember, I just took an old e-body cross member that was in bad shape and cut the mounting lug off of it. I then welded it to the original cross member. I have about a half inch between the Passenger side head and the firewall.

Good tip on the crossmember. I was just given a FREE 5th Avenue so it looks like I'm going to clip it with the 5th Ave. subframe. I'll post updates as things progress.

What did you decide, Mike? I have a 56 2-door HT in the shop I'm thinking about doing this to. Got a line on a couple 56 Plymouths now too. It's a disease, I tell ya, a disease!

Decided to stick with the stock frame/suspension (a few details on the other thread). If you are planning a similar swap I should have details about the engine plate, headers, etc after 1/1/12. Once I find out exactly what works I will pass along the info. In fact, I plan on making a template of the engine plate for anyone else that is interested in going this route.

Fire in the hole! Got the 440 running for the first time this afternoon. Sounds gooood, it's uncapped right now. Rear is in, brakes done, a little final wiring, tweak this, seal that and we are ready for an exhaust system. Then it will be time for a little

Very cool! You're moving pretty fast on it. When will we see some pictures?

I've been taking pictures and keeping part #s, but between work, life and this project I have not had time to post much. When the car is done I plan on starting a new thread with details.
