Just curious about you all who drive your cars on the street if you get the same feeling I do sometimes. I mean from driving my car alot I get used to the power and sometimes times when driving it I catch myself saying............man is it still as fast as it was ?? Like my old eng ran mid 11's and now and then I would just have a day when you say.........does it feel like it still runs mid 11's ?? So I would have to wait until I went to the track to verify. Course it always is running just as good but I wonder how many others get that once they get used to the power ? And of course now I plan to race my new combo in the next few weeks and I have never had it to the track. But I still catch myself saying............does it feel a second faster then the old combo ??? Guess I am going a little crazy. Or maybe its just that we want our cars to run as good as we hope. Oh well I still cant wait to get to the track with the new combo. Its funny as I really dont get into the car much on the street and dont want to street race at all as I am afraid I would get caught and have my car towed to an impound lot and that would freak me out !! But thats why we have race tracks. Ron

That is strange. I just got through driving my car to get groceries and was having the same thoughts about it too. I do think the power seems less when you get used to the car. Now I am looking for more power to get the same high I used to get.

yes. that is why we constantly act like drug addicts for new speed parts.

Ron, I know exactly what you are saying.

My old combo ran in the 12.40s before it sat for an extended amount of time, 15 years or so. Got the next motor in the car and it didnt feel all that impressive. I really didnt know if it was all that much quicker or not. That motor ran 11.30s. Now I have a very mild combo in the car. After long discussions and logic it should be back in the 12.40-.50 range, but the butt dyno says it feels quicker. So that has me worried. LOL.

Its not that my car is not fast enough as I am pleased but its just that after you get used to it sometimes you start to think it has slowed down. Just seems weird as usually you go back to the track and its just as fast. Ron

,there are days when I switch from my dualie,to the CTS-V Caddy then to Duster Dave's car. All have obnoxious power but I get the exact same feeling as you do.

got my heap out last nite to go to the cruise in. thought it was running a little ratty; hadn't been drove in a couple weeks. on the way home i found a clear spot. rolled out in 1st gear, open the dueces, blew the tires off, got a little wiggely, click it up in drive, cruised home. it still works.

I get that feeling especially driving the largecar(semi tractor trailer). Rolling down the interstate thinking that its a little down on power. Then I roll around another semi going up a hill, when I was pacing him on the flat. Yup, it still runs ok.

Horsepower is a drug as addictive as Meth. When I first installed my 528 Hemi it scared the crap out of me a couple times. I soon got used to it, I'm now working on some 'improvements'. To much is not enough. Dave

I know EXACTLY how you feel!!!! I get to thinking huh, is she down on power. Then have someone with you who is not used to the car and they are cleaning they're underwear and prying their fingers out of the dash pad when you stop. LOL, but still is it down on power......

My old truck has scared the crap out of me a couple times really good. The last time I was doing some tuning with a LM-1 meter, I decided I needed some high gear high rpm data. At about a buck thirty air got under the truck and I lost all steering control. It swapped lanes on me and there was nothing I could do but hang on until I got the speed down enough for the front wheels to touch down.Dave

I used to think my Duster was pathetically slow.

I would then get in the old Ford grain truck during harvest season. After driving it all week that Duster felt like a rocketship!

When I was younger I used to drink a little and I remember back in the 70's when I had a few beers in me that my 340 Dart seemed to feel a little faster as I drank a few more beers ! But that was wrong to even think of drinking and driving but I did it a few times when I had drank a few beers. Luckily I dont drink at all any more as once I started taking my pain meds 10 years ago I stopped drinking at all even though I did not drink much. But I remember how much faster the car felt with the help of a few beers. Ron

I just go out and jump on my moped, take it for a spin around the block, then everything seems fast again. Instant un-told h orsepower once again.

I'm always thinking that way too Ron. Not the beer part, your original post

I would like to know exactly why my car slowed down by .12 from last year though. Could have been the weather so I'm not too worried, but still.
My first 1/4 mile pass this year felt like a 12.50 run but it was 11.89. I kept pushing the gas pedal harder thinking I was doing something wrong

Don.

For me its ALWAYS been how a car launches off the line
be it street or the strip... once I shift to second it
all sorta gets slow.... I sure would like to get into
something like a PS just for the launch... a 1.19 60'
is a GOOOOD feeling but I want more but I dont think
that will EVER happen

Ron, I feel your pain, you do get use to some cars and the sensation of speed, I have been experiminting with parts on my Duster this year, found that I needed .120 needles in seats in all the Holley carbs. regardless of which rated CFM and type, 4150 0r 4500, 850 or 1050 CFM and in between. Last month I took the car to Woodburn for the Mopar race,I ran it some on Friday afternoons test and tune with the 850 Holley DP and 400-2 intake, it ran a little slower with the bigger needle and seat than the month before over there but the wideban showed it to be pig rich. I switch intakes and carbs. to a 1050 Dominator and a 400-3 intake, the car ran 10.40s at 126 MPH with the 850 and picked up to 10.03 at 133.45 MPH, I didn't feel that it picked up that much It did pull a lot better on the other end, ended up it had one .110 needles and seat in the rear float bowl and a .120 in the front when i got it home(the wideban showed it to be arginall lean) I forgot to check both before using it:o I ran it at Madras(1/8 mile) at the last race with the new .120 needle and seat in the rear and it picked up from 6.80 at 101 MPH to 6.48 at 105.7 MPH, no other changes I didn't feel that change either

Well I'll soon (I hope, with work the way it is) see what a solid roller will do for my junk. Got the motor pretty much buttoned up today and it's sitting on the dyno. Have to finish installing the tunnelram, reset the carbs, finish hooking everything up and load the motor. I'm hoping it'll break 700hp. Dave
