i`m getting back into moparts again and this question has been done to death before but...is there any new info on shaker colors. did the dealership have any box that was ticked for shaker colors-i don`t think so-there`s nothing on the buildsheets either. were they painted at the factory or delivered to them painted by the manufacturer. i have a fe5 red nov 15 cuda-don`t know if it should be red or silver or black? i was told all red cars had red shakers by another moparts member with a late 70 build red car with red shaker. what do you guys have in your databases on colors. i even heard of go mango b5 and plum crazy shakers? my 71 is a black shaker-definitely a black shaker car on gy3. i know of an original paint ga4 cuda with a silver shaker in 71.
all the best
frank.

Nothing on an order sheet or broadcast sheet to indicate scoop color.
No definative cut-off dates exist that I know off.
I've posted this before but here is the part of the Fram blueprint with their respective Chrysler part numbers...three colors only, red, silver, black were what Fram assembled and shipped off to Hamtramk for production line cars.
Plenty other colored scoops have been seen on cars in ads ( purple scooped Challenger convert ) and magazine test cars ( yellow scooped Cuda) but they were done for those purposes somewhere other than by the original vendor.
The only exception I was told by a Fram employee, is that he hand painted at least two orange scoops in 69 which he badged with Challenger engine callout nameplates.
Suits from Detroit waited while he painted them and left with fully assembled units claiming they were for special cars ( I'm guessing for the orange brochure shaker Challenger and press release photos).
Additionally lots of dealers would paint a scoop to match the body on a brand new shaker Cuda or Challenger sitting on their lot to suit a prospective buyer who didn't like the argent or black thus resulting in people claiming that is the way it came from the factory..

Welcome back! Scott Harms will know. There are many others with exceptional knowldege on here too, their names tags escape me. Moparts is the number one resource for these scrapes of information.

1970 Plymouth 'Cuda #'s 440-6(block in storage)currently 493" 6 pack, Shaker, 5 speed Passon, 4.10's
1968 Plymouth Barracuda Convertible 408 Magnum EFI with 4 speed automatic overdrive, 3800 stall lock-up converter and 4.30's (closest thing to an automatic 5 speed going)

Hi Frank,

My educated guess - Red.
The intent of the SHAKER bubble, for FE5 Rallye red cars, were to be painted FE5 Rallye red. Only the FE5 cars were intended to have the body color bubble. Flag ship color and all (at least for the early advertisments).
Other exterior colors for 1970 had the Argent bubble. Sometime late in the 1970 model year (~Late May or June), the Argent was replaced with the Black bubbles.
There are many original cars and documents that have exceptions.
Late 1970 with Red bubbles, late 1970 with Argent bubbles, early 1971 cars with Argent bubbles, etc.
But those topics have been discussed here before. Maybe a site seach will yield some additional information for you.

Terry always has the correct SHAKER/Fram manufacturer information. He has a wealth of knowledge.
I also agree with the other poster, Scott has a great deal of information too. I'm sure he will post soon.

Some of us researched as much as we could, even back since the mid 80s.

Between Terry and Ola it's been pretty well been covered above. If I can think of anything else I'll come back and add it.

Ken,
That is the exact picture that I was thinking about concearning the Hemi Orange Challenger R/T SHAKER bubble! It probably is the one Terry wrote about.

Red had red bubbles. Early cars argent. Late cars black. Some exceptions in between. If restoring a non FE5 car, and you don't know the original bubble color for sure, do argent for pre-May '70, Black for post-May '70. My October 10th '69 70 Hemi Challenger is argent. My June '70 70 383 Chally is black.

So ALL FE5 cars had red shaker thru the model year? I thought it was only early built FE5 cars had red shakers?

I'm the CARETAKER of Weinstats '69 440 'cuda registry and have 104 of the 360 cars to date. 84 fastbacks/20 coupes. Always looking for new(REAL M-code) '69 440 'cudas to add to the registry so drop me a note if any are found or known. This isn't a publicly released registry. Thanks, Dave

thanx for the great answers-the one that relays directly to me is the red car red shaker. i have always believed early 70 red cars had red shakers but there are some people that say all red cars had red shakers. does anyone have a red 70 car that believes the shaker was silver or black from the factory?
on the other colors i don`t think they were on production cars-the promo orange on the challenger and i think theres even a promo purple shaker challenger.
i`ve got pics of a b5 blue shaker challenger-the one on my first post-an old pic of a b3 hemicuda with a b3 shaker. i believe these two cars are incorrect and the owners painted them body color.
my 71 is black and was black from factory and most 71 cars ive seen are black with few in the silver but i have never seen a red 71 with a red shaker.
all the best
frank.

friend of mine used to own an unrestored FE5 red 6 barrel cuda. and I'm about 90% sure it was a argent shaker, maybe black but it defintly wasn't red.
I know it had a rubber bumper on the ft and I think rear also if it matters

Yeah, I love it. It's Go Mango though. It's from the new car issue of Car and Driver (I think). 2 page fold out.

The Challenger brochure has a Go Mango one too, though it looks more like Hemi Orange.

I'm pretty sure all red Cudas had red shakers, but that is not true for Challengers.

I had an all original Unrestored 70 440 6 Pak Cuda. It was a California car. Sept 13th SPD.FE5 exterior. It had front and rear rubber bumpers. Shaker was red, both painted mirrors. Red Interior. Cool car. Car was restored and won first place at the Nats a few years ago. Car is for sale by current owner also.

Sorry, but No, that car has been gone 15 years or more. It went to the Hillsboro Ohio area in a pkg deal with a 1970 Hemi Cuda

The V-code car was FE5 Red , black interior, black vinyl top, 440 six barrel, 4 spd, (I think it was a non console), 4.10 Dana , pwr disc brakes , Shaker , Ft rubber bumper and I think a rear rubber bumper.( not 100% sure on the rear though)

I might have a picture of it, but it would take some serious digging to find it.

I tried to buy them both but he always wanted more than I thought the cars were worth at the time.

Hemi car was an original black car with black int. , console auto. But had been painted a bronze color then block sanded to look like red oxide primer

When he sold them the V-code car had huge N50-15 on aluminum slots on the back of it.

and the Hemi cars engine was painted a bright yellow which really stuck out in the original black engine coompartment
