Does anyone recall how fast the original 1968 Dart GTS 340 was.
I think Car Craft made some tests back then.
I will try my 68 Dart with std 340 / 904 and 8 3/4 with 3.91 gear.
I hope to get some mid 13 et.

Thanks

They tested with the factory stock tires... tires are
alot better now days so I dont think you will have a
problem with some aftermarket tires

In the article in the 1968 HotRod magazine, they clocked a 14.40 et with a 340/auto 68 GTS. I believe it had a 3.55 gear.

A 391 gear and some tuning typically meant high 13's in most factory 340 A-body cars of the 68-71 era.

Sorry I did not mention that it has Doug's headers, Edelbrock airgap and a Thermoquad.
I just love Thermoquads carbs,on all streetcars I ever had I mounted a Thermoquad carb

The tires are Cooper's street tires.

Thanks.

Those Cooper tires are rock hard (I run them on the street on my Duster) so you will have a hard time hooking up on them.

I use M/T ET Street drag radials for the track.

Does it still have the stock flexplate?
If so street tires is a good idea.

I will use 9" slicks and frontrunners in the future, this will be the family bracket car.
But now it has a bit to wide 8 3/4 from an early 1960 B body so I cant fit the slicks with the rims I have.

My goal is to run mid 12 sec. later with slicks and maybe a hotter cam.

I had a 1969 Dart Swinger 340 with a 4 speed and open 3.23 gears. With the original tires it went 14.2 consistently.

I added headers, 7" cheater slicks and 3.91 sure grip and it went 13.5 consistently.

This was way back in 1969. It was a lot of fun, and premium gas was only $.25 a gallon. How I miss those days.

My 68 340 GTS ran 12.90 with small solid cam, airgap, cheap headers, and holley 750. Has a 3800 stall and 4.10 rear, with 235/60 BFG drag radial.

Yes I ran in to trouble on the way to the track, one burnt ballast resistor and one orange box.
But I had an old spare box and b/r from a Van, but it did'nt ran good with it so I limped it home and took my VW Passat instead. Tomorrow I will order a new MSD 6 box, I have had enough problems with the Chinese made MoPar crap boxes.

So I turned wrenches on Tobba Janssons Funny Car instead, which was a nice way to be "in" the racing game without my own car.

sorry to hear that, hey working on a funnycar must be a cool experience i like helping out on others cars but its hopeless to try to see much racing doing so,the only funnys i saw was from the CT pit area and thats not the best spot for watching quick runs, all i could get out of that was hearing the thundering sound and then a car quickly swishing by in the litle gap there is to look thru:(
