I am considering going with E85 on my street/strip SB stroker build. Haven't heard anything negative yet about running it.
There is a station a half mile from my house. I burn it in the wife's company car whenever it's my turn to fill it up.

What are you paying for race gas? It's 6.50 a gallon for 110 here, 2.70 something for E-85. I'd roughly have to go through 200 gallons of E-85 to pay for the costs of converting over the carb. That would be 5 years worth of racing.

It really depends on how much racing you do, and how big a motor (power) you make.
I burn about 150 gallons a year and the first year (2008) I switched race gas (110) was $7/gallon and E85 was $2.29. So a carb conversion paid for itself the first year. With pump gas prices high in 2011, E85 is higher right now. Who knows about next year. But 1 or 2 years is a great payback period, and even 3 for a new carb is worth it, in my opinion.
This is my 4th year. The first year (2008) was with a carb conversion, then I bought a used Ron's Flying Toilet injection system and that paid for itself in 2 years of fuel savings. Well, actually I won so much money racing the 1st year (2009) of injection it paid for itself in a few months... LOL

I dont normally run in cool weather but I did once with the E-85 and I went 8.96 at 151... but in the heat(even up to 90*) I run 9.06 to 9.08... in the cool runs I thought I was on the lean side so it might have gone quicker if I fattened it up

you guys are whineing about your racegas price. In Sweden low octan pump is about $8.50/gallon!!! E-85 is around $5.80/gallon
racegas is somewhere around $21.50/gallon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If I had to pay those prices for race gas I wouldnt be racing... I changed over to E-85 because it was 2.35 a gal VS 9.00 for 112 (back when I changed over), its 3.35 now... didnt matter if I went quicker or not
