'Assuming' that the top is all prepped , drip rails , windshield trim removed. What would be considered a 'fair' price to install my vinyl top on an E-body. I know this is very labor intensive job , just trying to get some idea?

I know this may not help out, but way back in 2000, I was charged $450 to install my convertible top on my 70 300. I would think that a vinyl top would be less trouble to install than a convertible top. Best to call around to some shops in your area to see what they are charging.

Cheers

Mark

About 3-4 years ago I had two guys come to my shop and install the top that I provided,I think I paid 200.00-250.00 at that time.I had both the frt&rear windows out and they did not install the drip rail mouldings. So depending on what they have to do will depend on cost.

If your glass is still in I would not install it. I just did one for a club member he did all the prep and put it all back together. It took me about 2.5 hours. I would have charged him $250 but he paid me with a new golf bag.

I had the vinyl top installed on my 70 Coronet.
I provided the vinyl top from legendary,
the car was basically an empty rolling shell.

He charged me 125.00 to install the vinyl top (no mouldings).

The same day he also installed the headliner.
(Also provided from legendary)
He charged 125.00 for that and he provided the 1/2" polyfoam
used for insulation - not the insulation you get from year one etc...

I thought that was very reasonable...
This was back in 2004....
I would expect that to be around $200 now... but not 400-450
for a vinyl top - unless that price incudes the top...

Hope this helps...

I find these types questions amusing ..

Will the OP print this out and take it to the shop he chooses saying well look here , this guy only paid 125 bucks 7 years ago X thousands of miles away from here , you surely can't want XXX to do it now ...

In my 40+ years of 'playing' with Mopars , I have never had to approach an Upholstery shop to install a Vinyl top. I honestly didn't know if it was 'couple hundred' or a thousand? I'm trying to figure my budget for paint / body & factoring in about how much this part of the restoration costs helps me with other segments. The cost is what it is , I just was hoping for some idea. Not looking for a bargain.........

Well, Obviously, I wouldnt expect to pay this now...
and I certainly had no expectation that anyone would print this out
and go to a shop expecting to get the same price...
That's not even remotely reasonable..

All it is, is a price for a similar task at a different point in time...it's a point of reference only...

Knowing what I know, having been there and done it.
If I were to go out and get this job done again (today)
I think a reasonable starting point would be double that...
As a starting point only....

Now, does that mean I'm going to find a jobber who will do it for
$250 (rolling shell, vinyl top supplied?) NO...
That price would just be own internal point of reference for
comparing estimates... that's all...

If I read the opening ad right, I think that's really all this guy
was asking for... Yes? No?

It's funny you say that, I just came from the trim shop yesterday inquiring about a headliner and top installation. I asked him if he wanted the car with or without the windows installed and he told me it didn't matter. Didn't ask for a price. Doesn't matter, I need it done and he just finished recovering my seats and the price was good.

I think I understand why the windows would need to be out. Do the Clips for the Window Chrome go on top and the Screws through it? I had one put on this Challenger but the Windows were in it?

Thanks to everyone for all the replies! I just wanted to get 'some' idea what it would run. I have drip rails off & back window out (replaced 'Dutchman panel) all window moldings are off ....... may have to yank the front windshield also if that's what it takes I just didn't know if it was a $300 or $1000+ job?

With the glass still in the chances of that top coming loose GREATLY increases. Right way to do it is with the glass out then it will not come loose. That's why I won't do it the half azz way.

On the other side of the coin, if you were able to remove the drip rails and glass without damage then you should be able to put the top on yourself. The directions are pretty good.
