BIG HELLO to my 2 favorite Mike's! Raff...yes I jetted up 4 on the primaries only...both carbs. Didn't change the MPH at all on the Demon. Went from 78 to 82. Went from 80 to 84 on the Holley...picked up 2 mph! Still can't believe how darn close these carbs performed on my car! It was HOT...but felt GREAT to do some SMOKY burn-outs and run the 1/4 again! Since Drag Times has no Ubly listing to figure the DA,I had to take data from Lapeer Dragway..the closest track. The average DA there from 1:00 to 5:30 was 2955. They're saying my corrected times would be 11.23 @ 121. I'll take it!
Why didnt you jet the secondaries also

Randy Glad you had a good day and didn't break anything. Does the holley have a pv in the rear?. Mick

FINALLY got a break from truck break-downs,and trying to sell our house! If I didn't use the calculator and average the 4 runs each with these 2 carbs...I wouldn't believe it! Not sure what the DA was at the track(Ubly)yesterday...but it was HOT and humid! When we started running @ 1:15 it was 85 degrees, and 90 degrees on the final run at 5:30. Since there weren't a lot of cars for the T&T session..and my car was running cool...only 170-175* after each 1st run,I hot-lapped it 4 times, for 8 total runs. Never went over 185 degrees all day! ***RESULTS*** Holley 950HP- Avg. from 4 runs..60' 1.67...E.T..11.53...MPH..116.5 Race Demon RS- 4 run avg.- 60' 1.69...E.T..11.51...MPH..117! I'd definately call it a DRAW! BOTH carbs worked well! I attribute the lousy 60' times to NO starting line prep! Didn't see them spray at all! I would be happy to own either one of these carbs! Thanks to Brad Haak, for the use of the Race Demon...and Russ Dudek, for the use of his Bigs 950HP Holley!
So when are you going to test an SV1?

Good results and they are real close et wise but agree a little tweeking may favor one over the other. How did you get your water temps down in that weather?

Randy, so would you say the BG was bigger/flowed more than the Holley ? just trying to correlate it to my experiences re finding where the motor simply cannot use more air/bigger carb

Glad you got out and had some fun.
I think the carb is actually 870 cfm. It has the 1.375 venturi.
Hard to believe that it would want that much jet.

thanks Randy. just shows what your motor wants, similar to my experience my 440 needed more than a ultra hp950,loves my bg 825(bigger),didn't gain with a prosystems hp1000 based carb(biggest). my heads and cam are the restriction.cam will change - not the heads can't / won't step up to the 10.0's - too many extra regs and rules you have a great looking GTX

Randy I run a stock 950 hp, last time our in 90 degree weather, i had 84 in the back no pv and 76 in the front, that was with open headers and 18" collector extensions. Car was nearly 2/10 off my best but still managed over 128 mph, also with the new tubular control arms it was hitting the tyres a lot harder making it spin. On the chassis dyno last year it liked 76 front and back with pv's and full exhaust but ran pb with 2 sizes up. Mick

Hi Randy, Nice meeting you out at Ubly Sat. Denise spent the day getting comfortable with her RR, which was the whole point of the trip. It had been nearly 10 years since her last run down the track, plus we wanted to be sure I remembered to tighten all the bolts! once we were convinced, and she got comfortable, she did great, the times, not so much. Time to start tuning. Best of the day was 14.42 @ 93. Should be able to tune about a second out of it, plus get some more with better air. This motor was never planned to be permanent, just kept it to get her in the groove of racing again. Will spend the rest of this year playing, then put something a little faster in it over the winter. Hope to see you out there again! Brent

No. We'll be up the first week in August. A few years ago we came up about this time of year. Had to get off at Telegraph as they were working on I-75. It was about midnight when we hit Taylor, I believe, and there was a really big cruise going on. Guys cruisin with slicks, burnouts going on regularly, people lining the street partying, for miles, most parking lots full of cars and people. My kids have never seen anything like it and thought it was cool. We've done the MtClemens thing a few years ago, but it was nothing like the Taylor thing

The Demon is set up w/ 1.425" sleeves in their "825" config, although BG stated back when the Gold Claws were released originally that this configuration flowed 980 cfm @ 1.5" (standard 4-bbl rating pressure). I picked it up from a board vendor a couple of years ago as a "race ready" low-use piece, which turned out to have been a bit effed up and required some parts to be sent back to BG to be fixed. Since Randy wasn't sure what type of carb he wanted to run w/ his GTX, I offered to let him test w/ it. I'd set it up for the expected conditions based on his input and IIRC the only thing he changed was going from .035 to .040 squirter size. Randy - I never asked you if the Bigs "950" is an original Holley 80496 tuned by Bigs (1.375" venturi) or one of the carbs they sell w/ the Proform "950" main body that has a 1.450" venturi. Do you know?
