Ive got the typical 8.25 rear in my 1973 Dart Sport 340 do they make parts when I go to redo it to "beef it up" to take some more HP and torque(nothing over 400 for sure and im thinking between 350-375HP....I know they make parts for it and I really dont plan to race it or anything just have a nice strong engine/tranny/rearend combo in the 350-375 HP range..Sorry about all the SB/A Body/340 questions but the A's and SB's are all new to me coming out of a BB 1969 RoadRunner. I knew the BB pretty well but not so much the small blocks.

You can get away from the 27 spline axles if you install a late model sure-grip and custom made, high-strength 29 spline axles.

E-mail me if you are interested.

I have a 73 Dart Sport 340 4 speed car with the factory 8.25 rear. I bought the car when I was 18 years old in 1988. Didn't get it on the road until '90. It had a 3.21 open. I bought a 3.90 sure grip rear, drum to drum from a 73 Charger. I had my friend swap the sure grip and 3.90s out of the b-body rear into mine.

Let me tell you, I beat the living CRAP out of this car in my early 20s, often drag racing it at the track week after week. It has a mild 360 and would run 13.0s in the heat at Maplegrove, so I'm sure it would have dipped into the 12s in the spring or fall at Cecil County. I'd dump the clutch with small slicks at usually over 3,500 rpm. I never once hurt that 8.25 rear. Sure, I broke yokes, u-joints, slip yokes, clutches and yes, even one 4 speed transmission. But I never broke that rear. Still in the car to this day. I think you'll be fine using one.

Thanks guys I figured they could be beefed up and its not like 350-375 HP and 400 at most is a lot so I figured also that it would live with that rear end..with the A body 8 3/4 going for more than the price of gold I figured id just keep the 8.25 and get good parts for it and maybe upgrade it to 3.55's like I had in the roadrunner..I think its one of the best all around gear sets made I believe right now its a 3.21.

I had a 8.25 with 3.21 gears in it in my '85 Gran Fury. It had a Mopar Performance Magnum 360. I put 60,000 miles on that car without a bit of trouble with the rear end. While I didn't race the car, it had plenty of hard launches and occasional street abuse.

I have the same set up on my current '88 Gran Fury, and no problems.

Randy's ring and pinion makes OEM and Performance parts for the 8.25. I got my 3.21 ring and pinion from Randy's that I had in my '85. My current car has the factory 2.94 still, but I will buy from Randy's again when needed.

Facts are stubborn things.
