Having just come from Carlisle I noticed a big difference in exhaust note. Of course there are a few cars with TTI exhaust and Headers, they stand out. But even with stock exhaust manifolds the sound varies. I have an Accurate system on one car (440 automatic, Challenger) and while it is OK, it sounds a bit wimpy.
For the next project I was looking at Don's exhaust for the main pipes off the stock manifolds and Accurate for the over the axle pipes. What are your recommendations for the best sound? I'm not looking for straight pipe-type loud, but something with more attitude.

I think the TTIs with headers sound the best with super dynomax mufflers.

FWIW i wouldnt mix diferent manufacturers pipes you may end up with fitment problems.
there is more to exhaust sound than the pipes/headers/mufflers. its whats infront of them that makes a big diference. a stock lowcompresion 318 will never sound like a stock 426hemi nomather what you do with the exhaust to the 318 just a comparison. and a mild bigblock will never sound like a hot one nomather how you mix and match the exhaust setup.

you can get some attitude from the sound of a mild 440 by chosing the right exhaustparts but it also depends on what kind of sound you prefer.

The Powerstick Chambered "mufflers" are approx 10" after the "H" pipe crossover, running 30" chambers, good backpressure (believe it or not) no clack, or "backfire" on high RPM de-acceleration, no thinny sound at idle, just a good rumble,....but when you open it up, you'll know it, quiet enough it don't piss-off the cops,...too much

I have 3 inch TTIs... and I should have these things installed by the end of the weekend.

Even the exact same exhaust on different cars may not sound the same. I once changed from a Crower cam in a 383 to a Crane, and the exhaust had a completely different tone to it. The only thing I can figure is that the exhaust opening point and residual cylinder pressure at that point accounted for the change. There were zero other changes to the car aside from the cam&lifters.

in a geek way
I would guess that the
exhaust gas temperature
is the main thing that changes
the 'note'

the EGT affects
the speed of sound in the gas mixture
and this speed of sound factor
affects how the muffler works
and also where the pipe lengths 'resonate'

The EGT in turn
changes with the dynamic compression ratio
and with at what degree of crank rotation
the exhaust valve opens
... this would be the main reason different engines with the same exhaust would sound different

The EGT would even change a bit
with the bore/stroke ratio
which is one aspect where Mopar engines
are different

I have the same combo. Sounds good.
