I would like to know the answer to that very question myself. I have one from Yearone that has a plastic covered core. But have not got far enough along to install it yet but I have a feeling it going to fit like putting a saddle on a pig.

Don't waste your time with the plastic core dash...It'll warp faster than the Enterprise leaving the galaxy....Ultimate rides or just dashes were the only game in town that were good alternatives...Now there's a new company making up dashes and seem to be getting good reviews but I personally have'nt tried them yet....Can't think of the name off the top of my head mabe someone that's used them will chime in....

you'd be better off filling the cracks in your current dash pad with spray foam. Then glue a new piece of vinyl over the existing with 3M trim adhesive. The end result would look like what you can buy today.

I'd wait until someone put the time and effort into a decent re-manufacturing process over the existing steel core. There is little good out there, hopefully someone proves me wrong.

Maybe 20 years ago that was your best cure......

Perhaps you've missed the many threads on E body dashes, for those of us who have ventured out and purchased E bodie dashes over the years they certainly have improved, I've gotten 2 pads recently in the past 2-3 yrs, an Ultimate Rides, which is nice, no complaints, grain was close enough to match the original, and recently a dash pad from Carolina Super Dash, very nice pad, correct in all aspects for me, fit was extremely good,....so take the time to search Moparts for the "review thread" on a fitment of a Carolina Super Dash

I got the same one from yearone and it was a total mess. warped across top of guages, missing trim attaching points that my metal core dash had. Returned it and sent my original to just dashes and got a beautiful piece.

The best is hands down Just Dashes. The UR pad is a close 2nd but I did not like the fit on the ends were they meet the outer frame, just not good enough for me. I have seen the Carolina Dash pads and the ones I have seen are wavey on the top of the guages not a nice consistant arch like OEM. None of the pads are as good as OEM but good luck finding a perfect used one. Just my

I have the UR pad. The fit is good; however, If you go that route pay particular attention to the vin placement area in relation to the mounting (rivet)holes and the overall area required to seat the plate correctly. In my case I had to drill new holes in order to seat the plate flush with the flat impression of the dash. If I would have used the factory holes it would have been a disaster.

Got to watch it with JUST DASHES,...friend had one done for his 70 HEMICUDA,....rather than sending them his best core (least amount of cracks) he sent them his worst,....they just fill the cracks after stripping the outer vinyl, and "sand" it down,.....in the sunlight, and various angles, the cracks were visible as shadows/highs/lows in the new skin, which looked a little "puffier" than original,...I wasn't impressed, yet I've seen other JUST DASHES done on others cars and they looked nice, same with the repro dashes, some nice, some flawed, even from the same vendor,....so it's kinda like a crap shoot out there, you just hope the one you have done, or buy, isn't crap,....good luck in your choice

I'm test fitting an UR pad right now. The A-pillars don't fit the pad well at all. The passengers side is OK...there is an 1/8" gap between the A-pillar trim and the pad. The drivers side is horrible. There is a 1/2" gap there.

I'm going to have to redrill one of the VIN tag holes in order for the tag to fit the pad.

I sent my origonal pad out to be redone and recieved my origonal frame back. The right hand lower dash trim didn't fit the pad. I should have heated up the trim and bent it so that it was inline with the pad but I didn't. I tried to trim some foam out of the pad and messed it up really good.

UR was nice enough to fix it for me. I just had to pay the shipping both ways. However, I didn't get my origonal frame back the second time. I recieved a pretty rusty frame back. Like I said, I'm going to have to redrill one VIN tag hole and I already redrilled two speaker grill holes.

The right hand lower dash trim still didn't fit so this time I heated up the plastic and bent it into shape. It still doesn't match up perfectly.

I went down this very road recently.
1970 Cuda non air pad, original steel frame.

Customer brought me a Yearone supplied pad. And the fit left A LOT to be desired.
And I have no idea when he bought it, or who made or supplied it to Yearone.

Neither lower L shaped trim fit worth a darn.
I trimmed out some foam from under the vinyl.
But still ended up taking a heat gun to some extra plastic trim pieces and made it work as best I could. It's not too bad now,,,but if it was my car I don't think I would be happy with it longterm.

I had the same problems with UR pads (installed 2 of them) but not with the 2 pads from Just Dashes that required no trimming at all so maybe I just got luckey.

I've used several of both UR and JD over the last few years. Doing a JD one now. Both have their issues as stated so it's preety much a tossup.
UR uses original steel cores and applies new foam with died vinyl. They have had some fit issues on the ends mainly.
JD just fills in the cracks of the old foam which I don't like. The fit is pretty good but be careful of colors. They scratch really easy. Just putting the A covers on without scratching the pad is difficult.
IIRC JD cost more than UR
I haven't tried Carolina Super Dash yet.

UR was suppling Y1 the metal frame pads for years but if Y1 is selling plastic frame pads then they must have got a new supplier.
