I never knew that the factory used large staples on vinyl roof cars. I discovered these staples while removing the trim on my 71 Duster 340. They are on all 4 upper corners?? It is coded for a vinyl top, and it only had the factory on it during its life. So it wasn't likely dealer or aftermarket installed. My car was an LA built car if that matters.
Is this normal on V top cars?

My 70 'Cuda vinyl top LA built car had those too as I recall. Not quite that noticeable though, and as you said only in the corners

My T/A had them across the whole front at the top.

Not another LA built oddity...Across the board it seems.

Sure doesn't help rusting and leaks..

Mine is from Hamtramck. Nothing odd about the staples.

My 70 dart had a few staples in the rear window jamb when I tore the old top off it. I don't recall the staples being very large and they were much farther apart than the ones pictured above.

My 72 Charger SE has them in the corners and a few toward the center.

My 71 Challenger R/T had them

They were probably put on there so they could pull them tighter and let the glue set. Assembly lines needed it to be fast and that looks like one way to save some time.

My bird and every b-body that I have seen from at least 68/70 had them so that also would include Lynch road cars.(and they are not fun to remove)
