I did a search through the archives to dig up some information on direct drive starters used on '66-69 4-speed hemicars. One of the more recent threads (with pictures) is this one

The question I have is whether there is a difference in the '66-67 starters vs. the '68-69 starters. The bellhousings were different, so it's at least possible that the starters changed as well.

You can see from this picture (Allen/xs29j8 posted it in the linked thread above) that the nose casting is 2642443 and the starter assembly part number is 2642445.

The part number from the above starter is different than what is found in the '69 parts book, which leads me to believe that there are at least two "correct" part numbers for Hemi direct-drive starters. Another friend of mine has a 2642930 starter, which is the same P/N found in the '69 parts book. Incidentally, the nosepiece has a casting number of 2642928 on it. Sorry, but I don't have a picture of that starter - although the starter does have the same radiused corner that Allen shows in the earlier thread.

Does anyone know what the '66 or '67 parts book shows as the correct part number for a Hemi direct-drive starter? Are there any other casting numbers found on "correct" nosepieces other than 2642443 and 2642928?

Thanks in advance for any help figuring this out!!!
