I pulled these from the threads

Ya know with all the different combos and machine work they may or not may not work. On one of my 440s the paper gasket never fit right and did not need them but on another 440 that showed oil being sucked into the intake I put the paper between the head and gasket and it worked.

If you do not need the papers, fine, don't use them. Fel-Pro developed them at Chryslers request when they kept having warranty problems on the aluminum intake, six pack cars. The steel valley gasket IS designed for a crush fit, but aluminum intakes did not reliably crush the gasket like a hard, heavy cast iron intake will. Throw in the typical loose parts tolerences then and you can see why this problem occurred. Not all of them leaked, but enough did to cause repeat warranty work and this was the crutch that was developed. There is usually a good reason why a manufacturer makes a product, most people just can't be bothered to find out why.
