I remember some people complaining about a supply problem at one point just before and during the bankruptcy (like Mid November'ish) and I'm pretty sure some people said their car's with 20 inch wheels got the 3.73's because they were out of the 3.92's and the vendor wouldn't send them any 3.92's so they had to substitute the gearing. I want to say this was around the time a batch of the 'classics' were built and were the only batch effected by the gear substitution.
