Well, I just got done assembling an 833 a few weeks ago. And on the bench, there's a huge difference in how the "shift feel" is when that ball is not loaded against the lever. I'm thinking it's safe to assume anyone would feel that when shifting from the drivers seat. Maybe not, my mistake.

Not to mention, that detent is there for retention of the lever to stay in neutral. I also would think that tend to walk and create a difficulty in finding reverse. And possible nonsychro "gear clatter".

But, as I said, it can be checked out w/o pulling the sidecover. Undo the rod and see how it feels. When the jury comes back we'll see.
