You might as well take the plunge and get some Edelbrock heads. Zero deck the block and select a cam that will get you in the 8.2 to 8.5 dynamic effective compression range. It's all in the cam selection. If you want an engine that makes more low end power go with dished pistons and select the cam accordingly. That is what I used and am very happy with my Magnum headed engine. No need for a high stall converter either.
