The benefit of dual points verses single point distributors is a longer dwell time with the dual point set up. This gives the coil primary windings a longer saturation time of the secondary windings in the coil and a hotter ( higher voltage ) spark. If your existing dist has no problem lighting the plugs, you will see no ( or very little ) benefit. Obviously, if the motor is modified enough to put the stock ignition on the ragged edge of being able to fire the plugs, it will help going to the dual point system. You would also have to upgrade your coil accordingly to get full benefit of that change. You could run it with the stock single point coil, but it's life will be shortened. The advance curve will depend on the application - street, strip, light / heavy car, manual, auto, gear ratio, ect.
