The basic use of the oil slinger is to keep the excess oil splash from the front cover seal area to prevent leakage. There is plenty of oil splash and fog in the crank case to provide adaquate oiling to the chain and sprockets without any additional oiling and the proper installation of the sling would not provide much splash to the chain area any way. In stalled it is cupped over the seal area to keep oil off that area as much as possible and the rounded area facing to the inside of will provide little of no splash.
