Ok, I'm gonna reveal how little I know about timing.

What springs, where would I get them, how do I figure out "total timing". I've never done this before. All I've ever done is adjust the distributor position. But I'm willing to learn.

Springs are on the centrifugal weights inside the distributer. Light weights are available through most speed shops. Follow directions that come with them. Total timing is done with a a timing tape around damper, a damper already marked or a timing light designed to dial back the timing so you can use the stock marks. To determine total timing you must rev the engine high enough for the centrifugal weights to be at their limiters then read the timing as usual. -Bob
