He is right. It's an easy fix. But if it used to work right and now it acts funny. Something went wrong.

If you recently R&R'd the transmission, engine, or linkage pieces the adjustment is normal.

If not check the bushings at the ends of the cross shaft and the shift levers for wear or broken pieces. The cross shaft bushings are still available from Mopar and probably other places.

If the bushings are OK check the engine and transmission mounts.

I have never found that problem occur without some kind of recent repair that alters the adjustment or wear worn out parts.
