Ron's write-up was very insightful and although I've bought a 337 manifold I've been reluctant to change out my 440-2D on my 517 low deck (Chapman Max wedge heads) because it just seems so perfectly matched to the motor and even with killer 380 cfm heads I can't find a flaw in the power up top. I've run the big Indy single before and I found it's very "light switch" like in terms of power, even with 500" the A/F seems to get a little confused which way to go below 4000rpm so the torque is a bit soft on the street.

But I have several hours of hand porting in my 2D and I'd like to test it back to back against an OOTB MW 2D straight from indy or a 337, the 2d has 3 Weaker ports (#7) especially so they take some radius work to bring them up to par, so that may just be the difference in matching up to the 337.

Ron and Brian (Oldschool) were VERY helpful to me....both did back to back testing and went with the 337 on their 572 inchers. With about 10% more cubes they're motors have that big torque advantage so with my heads I've got to spin mine up a bit tighter to stay in the similar HP range, my thoughts with the 337 was to port it slightly (the as-delivered port cross sections are about 10% smaller than the full 2.6" x 1.3" Maxies) and maybe bridgeport it for a Dommy or try the new Pro systems SV1 (huge one barrel 4150) on it, I don't know. I'm in the process of swapping back to a 4 speed which means I won't need as much of the 2d's killer mid-range, my gut is that the comparison on my motor might be too close to call, but remember the 2D needs a bit of work in the lower plenum.
