In my case the lines switched sides on the mc.

obviuosly didn't use an original replacement part , i swapped from a drum master to an NOS disc master and used the same lines .

if he is switching from non power to power he will need new lines .

Staying non-power. I did order new lines as the old ones look like they are ready to quit. Better to be safe than sorry!
