Pretty sure phosphoric is the active ingredient in all the removers. But some do seem to work better than others and are less irritating to the skin for some reason.

And, a big reason for me, some require only one step like Picklex, and others require three steps like POR 15 rust remover. 3 steps just takes too long and too much $ for the for all those products.
