Widebands sensors will work in any part of the exhaust assuming there are no leaks. They do not need to be close to the engine like narrow band sensors. Sticking them up the tailpipe can produce false readings unless you use a special adapter that Innovate sells.

I'd just drill into the pipe and weld a bung on.
