This is killing me... The correct term for the sockets and wrenches you are describing are 12 point or 6 point. The fact that you don't know this tells me you are in over your head and you should find some local help. If you are determined to do this yourself, get some 6 point sockets. If you wanna round off (strip) a fastener (bolt or nut), use a cheap 12 point socket. Garranteed to strip it every time. A good quality 6 point tool will get the job done. If it's really tight, you may need to add some additional leverage, but use caution. Using two tools together for added leverage can lead to busted knuckles.
