Most cars truly don't need a line lock anyway. If you roll through the puddle and stop just before the pavement gets dry and smack the throttle hard, the car will jump right up on the tire with very little forward movement, even with no line lock. As soon as it starts spinning well, go to high gear to make wheel speed and you will get the tire plenty hot, plenty fast and hardly move forward. Regardless of tire type, or how you see some kill their tires in the burnout, the ideal tire temp is within 20-30 degrees of the track temp. The only time I have ever used the line lock on any of my cars, was if it had a clutch and then I used it to stage. May take you a few times to get used to this method, but it's really easy once you do.
