If anything I'd say an R1 would require maybe hair more clearancing work than an R3 for roller link bars/rivets.

R block.. they are drop in deal, as R block does not have inner row of head bolt bosses, lifter valley is like factory block/X block.

For all intensive purposes an R1 might as well be an X block other than the 18 bolt capability & I think they have slightly thicker deck, that's about it.
