In the end, we'll tend to do what we can afford, in order to make our recreational activities that much more enjoyable. When we started bracket racing in the 80's, we drove 75 miles to the track Saturday morning, home Saturday night, and back again Sunday morning. That was less money than a hotel near the track. then we bought a camper, and that made racing WAAY more enjoyable. Then we moved up to a C-class motorhome, and it's just that much more enjoyable. You eat your own food, have your own drinks, your own bed (your own crapper!). If I had the resources to be travelling 500, 800, 1200 miles to go racing, I'd probably have upgraded my tow rig substantially.
