If you are measuring for pushrods, snug the adjuster up with the pushrods until you can just barely feel the pushrod resist turning with your finger. Take that measurement, then ADD your preload to the length of the checking rod for your actual pushrod length. (basically, what you have above, but ADD the preload to your pushrod measurement)
